"Ive spent most of my life alone, alone but not lonely, comfortable in my own solitude. I like it this way."
Born in Belleville Ontario, Lorimer attended school there before heading to Toronto to further his art education. He won a scholarship to study at The Art Gallery of Ontario. He then attended The Ontario College of Art from 1979 - 1981 before leaving in his third year. "I just needed to learn on my own terms."
Prefering to work large. Lorimer likes his paintings to command their environment rather than complement it. Paintings that speak with confidence, stir emotion, make statements and demand a reaction from the viewer.
"After 30 years of painting Ive discovered my natural instinct is to paint representatively, but for shear enjoyment abstraction is where its at for me. My paintings are often a marriage of both disciplines."
Brian Lorimer now lives on Mississagagon Lake in Eastern Ontario.
